ESTUARY LAKES
This part of The Thames Estuary is the point where the River Thames meets the North Sea, forming a tidal water body that acts as the gateway to London from the sea. The Estuary Lakes gradually widens to allow the freshwater flow of the Thames to mix with saline seawater. The Estuary’s tidal movements play a crucial role in the transport of goods and maritime navigations. The fact that these two bodies of water interlink with each other creates a diverse habitat for birds, fish, and marine life, whilst also helping prevent flooding, water quality and pollution.
